Bishop: SOL declines expected in first year of tougher standards, will rise in ’14

Roanoke City School Superintendent Rita Bishop say this year’s English and science SOL scores are the result of new and more rigorous state standards put in place for the first time — and a typical first-year outcome. Roanoke pass rates fell in those subjects, as they did statewide. Math numbers generally rose a bit in both the city and across Virginia. WFIR’s Evan Jones has the story.
