It’s a common myth that senior drivers are dangerous drivers. But, a AAA survey indicates that motorists age 65 and older often “self-police” their driving or avoid driving situations that put them at greater risk of a crash. WFIR intern reporter Starr Anderson has more about the survey:

Roanoke Fire/EMS Photo

Weather conditions and increased outdoor activity are raising concerns for wildfires in our area. Recent warm temperatures, low humidity, and wind have come together to create conditions ripe for wildfires like the one on Poor Mountain earlier this month. WFIR’s Steve Mabry has the story.

Open burning is banned statewide until after 4:00 pm now through April 30.

Blue Ridge Parkway

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ Mitt Romney easily won a Virginia Republican presidential primary in which only two candidates were on Tuesday’s ballot and just 5 percent of the state’s voters participated.

Complete but unofficial totals showed former Massachusetts governor with 59 percent of the vote and Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 41 percent. Continue reading

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is out with an enhanced interactive crash map that provides detailed traffic accident information for streets and highways across Virginia. DMV’s Melanie Stokes says you can drill down to the neighborhood level and find individual accident data, complete with photos of the areas where the accidents happened. The interactive crash map can be found here.
