GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A voluntary recall of thousands of pounds of ready-to-eat chicken has been expanded over concerns that the meat could be contaminated with bacteria that can cause food poisoning.
Colorado-based Pilgrim’s Pride on Tuesday announced the recall now includes about 7,000 pounds of Pilgrim’s Pride Brand Fully Cooked Chicken Breast Nuggets that were shipped to dozens of Dollar General stores in the following states: West Virginia, Tennessee, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.
The PGA Greenbrier Classic begins tomorrow in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia, just under two hours from Roanoke. More on the tournament from News/Talk 960’s Bob Clark.
More than 100,000 people are expected to attend this year’s Greenbrier Classic this week, and that’s before you figure in attendance for concerts featuring performers like the Black Eyed Peas, Tim McGraw, and Miranda Lambert. Last year, the traffic backups got really long, but tournament officials hope steps they’re taking this year will help relieve at the least the worst of the delays. The State Department of Education is granting accreditation waivers to seven area schools because their recent SOL performance has been so strong. They are Crystal Spring Elementary in Roanoke City, Burnt Chimney and Glade Hill Elementaries in Franklin County, and four schools in Roanoke County. As News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones reports, state and local school administrators disagree on what these waivers are likely to actually mean.
A company preparing to start up operations in Franklin County began taking applications today. Solution Matrix, Inc. intends to hire 25 to 30 new workers when it begins operations at its new facility in the Franklin County Commerce Center this September. The worst of the latest heat wave is over, but it looks temperatures will probably remain above normal more often than not well into late August. News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones has the hot and humid details.
Salem Police hope surveillance photos will help them find a man who allegedly hid in the back seat of a car in a bank parking lot and held up a woman as she got back into her car just after using the ATM. Police did not name the bank, but they say it happened last Friday in the 1400 block of Apperson Drive. That’s the address for a Wachovia Bank branch with a walk-up ATM.
