A former Lexington Superintendent of Schools has been named interim principal at Northside High School for the rest of the school year. Dr. Dan Lyons was named to the position today. He is filling in after Principal Frank Dent resigned last week and Assistant Principal Amy Puckett requested re-assignment earlier this week. Lyons retired from Lexington schools last year.

From Roanoke County Public Schools — Dr. Dan Lyons, former superintendent for Lexington City Public Schools, has been selected as the interim principal at Northside High School for the remainder of the school year.  Dr. Lyons served as the superintendent in Lexington from 2002 until his retirement in 2015.  Dr. Lyons was the principal at Lylburn Downing Middle School in Lexington from 1997-2002. He has served as an assistant principal and athletic director at Rockbridge County High School, has taught at Lexington High School and at schools in Baltimore and in Alabama. Dr. Lyons holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola College.  He also holds a Master’s Degree and a Doctorate from Virginia Tech. “I’m thankful that Dr. Lyons can come to Northside to offer his expertise,” said Dr. Greg Killough, Superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools.  “Dr. Lyons will help us maintain the focus on learning and instruction at Northside and will be an excellent resource for the students, staff and Northside community this year,” Dr. Killough said.
