Roanoke’s popular Green Academy returns next week. Classes begin on March 1st at Fishburn Park Elementary and will be held on consecutive Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. through the 29th. WFIR’s Timothy Martin has details.

Local Komen official: we’re not political
The fallout continues from last week’s Susan G. Komen for the Cure decision to adopt criteria excluding Planned Parenthood from future grants because it was under government investigation. It cited a probe launched by a congressman at the urging of anti-abortion groups. While the charity reversed the decision days later, yesterday an executive resigned over the matter. Franklin County woman’s remains will return to Virginia this week

A Franklin County woman whose remains were found in October of last year will finally be laid to rest later this week. 64-year-old Shirley Hodges disappeared back on August 31st. In October, some kids hunting in Cherokee County, Alabama found human remains that DNA tests in January confirmed were Hodges’. WFIR’s Timothy Martin spoke with Hodges’ daughter about what the last five months have been like and how she’ll honor her mom at a funeral this weekend.
